1991年《疯王乔治三世》首演于英国国家剧院，也开启了英国当代最优秀的剧作家之一阿兰·本奈特与导演尼古拉斯·希特纳的第二次合作（他们后来的《住货车的女士》《历史系男生》都相当成功），1994年被改编成为电影后获得英国电影学院奖多项大奖。2018年为庆祝诺丁汉剧院建成70周年，特请到曾出演过《神探夏洛克》、NT Live版《科利奥兰纳斯》的马克·盖蒂斯（Mark Gatiss）与阿德里安·斯卡伯勒（Adrian Scarborough）倾情加盟复排，两位奥利弗奖得主的对手戏火花四溅。

Quite banal I have to say, didn't expect that from Alan Bennett (or is it the director‘s fault?) Although the therapy scenes are indeed heart-wrenching, rhythm of the whole play is messed up, feels like riding on a mine cart instead of rollercoaster. Nevertheless, it DOES have many funny gags, and the reference to King Lear is quite to the point

居然HE了，果然还是HE看着人愉悦，但终究是一部中规中矩的正剧，依靠着演员们的演技而得以撑起，但是，也没有什么惊喜和惊艳，
